As we all know we have been through a distant and long journey of evolution to reach where we are today in the way we are now. This constant cycle of change, ongoing development and the passing of trends is what we have been learning to adapt ourselve.
Various trends in all walks of life have modified us in each aspect of our routine.
It refers to being an audience and a part of these trends both individually and collectively . Family, society, groups, teams all are the different areas where various trends and continuous changes have kept us holding on to our learning path.
An organizations are no exception here. Right from technology to machinery, from materials to management, every nook and corner has been an audience to these passing trends and have participated in them as well.
Similarly the workforce to say has seen trends to man power and personnel through these year and ages of advancement.
But one trend that has yet its roots deep into the process of hiring is following the old methods of recruitment and selection every time there is need of adding more strength to the organizational team. Often an average employer relies on the tried and tested practices of interviewing candidates, again for which a fixed format and questions are in place.
What needs to be done over here is to slow down, take a breath and take time to analyze the current trend to workforce and the kind of skill sets required for performing the tasks. The employers often tend to use the same tools for selection that were used the previous time. When asked why the same method, the answer as simple as ever: "because it worked the last time".
The question now arises as to how the do we know of rely that the same method used last would work this time as well, or would help us in getting the creme crowd for our organization.
As times pass, as the pools of knowledge keep on advancing, the new ages corporates are now looking for people with an edge...not only in terms of knowledge or experience but also skills and talents of people management. The need of the hour is not only the IQ but also the EQ and HQ. Today definition of workforce is not limited to people who come work on machines (simple as well as complex), and leave, it means much more than this, employers today look out for a human resources full of potential to learn, grow and catalyze the process of development. For this the age old method of interviewing on the lines of a fixed questionnaire or pattern is not going to be a great help at hand.
There needs to be a more analytical and more open ended way to proceed in selecting and recruiting the best for the company. For this the entire trend out there in the market needs to be studied and analyzed. Gone are the days when people used to work for fulfilling the basic necessities of life, family and living.
Today's workforce looks for a win-win situation where along with the basic needs a lot more things are on the achievement list of the ace workforce. They look out for team, good culture, good environment, designation, self satisfaction in the job, challenges.
Times when an average employee looked out for a more relaxed and simple job have faded away. The young entrepreneur is looking out for a place to work, experiment, learn, innovate, take up challenges and lead for a wholistic development.
Again there are lots and lots of ways to ensure the right practice is being adopted for the selection of people, this could be much more than the stereotyped interviews and logical reasoning tests, it could be stress tests, group tasks, interaction, project test or even various activity tests based on EQ, IQ and HQ.
The ball again in the employer's court now needs to be handled more uniquely and efficiently.
I would keep on discussing on this more ahead, plz let me know ur inputs as well....
So on, so forth,
